The Academy of Urban Planning and Engineering (AUPE) recently hosted a vibrant and inclusive Multicultural Feast, a heartwarming event celebrating the Brooklyn school community’s diverse cultures and backgrounds. Held the day before Indigenous People’s Day, a national holiday honoring the Indigenous peoples of the United States, the event served as a powerful testament to AUPE’s commitment to embracing cultural diversity.
The feast was a potluck-style gathering, with students bringing various dishes representing their rich and varied cultural heritages. From traditional delicacies hailing from Ghana, Colombia, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Italy, Nigeria, Korea, and beyond, the event provided a platform for students to share their cultures, traditions, and cuisines with their peers. This communal celebration fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie and encouraged a deeper appreciation for the diverse tapestry woven within the school’s community.
The Multicultural Feast exemplifies AUPE’s dedication to being a culturally responsive high school, where diversity and inclusion are not just acknowledged but celebrated. By providing an opportunity for students to learn about and honor the myriad cultures present within the school, the event played a crucial role in promoting cross-cultural understanding, respect, and a sense of belonging. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, teachers, and administrators underscores the profound impact of the Multicultural Feast in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment at AUPE.
